Ehrenreich Christopher Ludwig Graf Moltke (born June 18, 1790 in Roskilde , † August 10, 1864 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish diplomat and bailiff .

Life

Ludwig von Moltke was the son of the Chief President, Count Werner Jasper Andreas von Moltke . He studied law at the University of Heidelberg and at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel until 1811. In Heidelberg, he became a member of the Guestphalia I country team in 1809 . In the following year, 1812, he passed the examen philosophicum at the University of Copenhagen and received the court title of chamberlain . After graduating in law, he joined Denmark's foreign service in 1816 and worked as legation secretary in Stockholm and Berlin . In 1819 he broke off his diplomatic career and married Reinholdine Frederike Vilhelmine, née Bardenfleth (1800–1890), daughter of Rear Admiral Johan Frederik Bardenfleth (1772–1833). He was Danish bailiff in Iceland in Iceland Søndre Office and at the same pin bailiff . In 1823 he became a bailiff in Præstø Amt on Zealand. Moltke was later appointed chamberlain and mayor of the Aalborg monastery . His time in Aalborg was short-lived; In 1828 King Frederik VI appointed him . from Denmark to court marshal of the prince (and later king) Frederik Carl Christian ( Frederik VII ). After four years in court service, Moltke became Danish envoy to the Swedish court in Stockholm, where he worked in 1846. He then became a Danish envoy to the French court in Paris as a secret conference councilor . In 1848 he was briefly considered by the king as foreign minister, but political events in Denmark also precipitated in 1848. So he continued to represent Denmark's interests in France until 1856. After his release, he initially retired to Kiel. However, when the political climate in Schleswig-Holstein became unbearable for him in 1863, he settled in Copenhagen, where he died the following year.
