Ludwig von Rössler (completely Ludwig Christian Friedrich Wilhelm von Rössler , born June 13, 1842 in Wiesbaden , † May 3, 1910 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German portrait and genre painter.

Life

Ludwig von Rössler was born as the son of the police director of Wiesbaden, Albert Franz von Rößler (1815–1879), his brothers were the composer Gustav von Roessler (1850–1919) and the painter Adalbert von Roessler (1853–1922).

He studied painting at the Academy of Arts in Karlsruhe , from 1863 in the class of antiquities at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich , then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and as a student of Carl Johann Lasch in Düsseldorf . He lived in Düsseldorf from 1866 to 1874, then in Frankfurt am Main, where he ran a private art school for women until 1897 and was given the title of professor in 1881.
