Princess Luise Charlotte Radziwill (also: Louise Caroline (von) Radziwill , Lithuanian : Liudvika Karolina Radvilaitė , Polish : Ludwika Karolina Radziwiłł ) (born February 27, 1667 in Königsberg ; † March 25, 1695 in Brieg ) was the sole heir of the Calvinist line of the House of Radziwiłł in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania . Like her father, Luise Charlotte supported Calvinism in Lithuania. Its centers were their Dubinki and Birże estates .

Life

She was the only child of the Lithuanian statesman and governor of Prussia , Prince Bogusław Radziwiłł , and his wife and cousin (first degree) Princess Anna Maria Radziwiłł (1640–1667). Her paternal grandparents were Prince Janusz Radziwiłł (1579–1620) and Princess Elisabeth Sophie of Brandenburg , daughter of Elector Johann Georg von Brandenburg and Elisabeth von Anhalt . Her maternal grandparents were the Lithuanian statesman Janusz Radziwiłł (1612–1655) and Katharina Potocka (around 1616–1642), daughter of the Polish voivode von Bratslav , Stefan Potocki (1568–1631) and the princess Maria Amalia Mohyła (1591–1638), Daughter of Jeremi Mohyła (Ieremia Movilă, 1555–1606), Prince of Moldova and the Hungarian noblewoman Elisabeth Csomortany de Losoncz (1572–1617).

On January 7, 1681, Luise Charlotte married Ludwig von Brandenburg , the youngest son of the Elector and Duke Friedrich Wilhelm and Luise Henriette of Orange in Königsberg . With the marriage of the two children, the elector prevented the princess' property from moving into Lithuania. Jakub Sobieski also campaigned for her hand . The Radziwiłł Catholic line first tried to marry her off to a relative. At times there was also the risk that the law would prohibit her from marrying outside the country. However, the elector fended off all attacks by paying high bribes to Polish magnates and they even “blew up” a parliamentary session by means of a liberum veto . Not until 1685, against compensation payments to the Catholic relatives and King John III. Sobieski , your property has been secured. Through their marriage, the Lords Tauroggen and Serrey came to Brandenburg-Prussia as dowry . However, Ludwig died of an unknown cause in 1687, which meant that the marriage remained childless.

On August 10, 1688, Princess Luise Charlotte was in Berlin with the later Elector Karl III. Philipp von der Pfalz , fourth son of Elector Philipp Wilhelm and Elisabeth Amalie von Hessen-Darmstadt , married.

Marriages and offspring

Her first marriage to Ludwig von Brandenburg was childless. From the marriage with Charles III. Philipp von der Pfalz had three daughters, only one of whom reached adulthood:
