Luigi Balestra

Luigi Balestra (born July 16, 1873 in Bioggio ; † March 30, 1970 ibid., Catholic , resident in Gerra (Gambarogno) ) was a Swiss politician (CVP) .

biography

Luigi Balestra was born in Boggio on July 16, 1873 as the son of the plasterer Pietro Balestra and Martina Camponovo. After completing the Sant'Anna College in Roveredo and the Lyceum in Lugano , he studied law in Heidelberg and Lausanne , where he received his doctorate in 1896 .

As a result, Balestra worked as a lawyer and notary in Lugano from 1898 . Luigi, who was married to Franca Maddalena, died on March 30, 1970 at the age of 96 in Bioggio.

Political activity

The conservative Balestra exercised his first political function from 1897 to 1903 in the municipal council of Bioggio. From 1897 to 1928 he was represented at the cantonal level in the Ticino Grand Council , which he chaired in 1919. In addition, Balestra had a seat in the National Council from 1919 to 1928 .

As a co-founder of the Società delle ferrovie luganesi in 1910, later as Vice-President and Chairman of the Board of Directors , Balestra promoted in particular the construction of the Lugano-Ponte Tresa railway line .
