Luigi Grati

Luigi Grati OSM (full name Pietro Angelo Luigi Pacifico Grati ; born February 26, 1763 in Falconara Marittima , † February 11, 1849 in Rome ) was an Italian religious , Prior General of the Servites and Curia Bishop .

Life

He entered the Servite Order and took the religious name Luigi . He was ordained a priest on December 19, 1789. In 1794 he became a master of theology, after which he took on the duties of the order in various convents . Between 1816 and 1826 he worked as a preacher in Bologna and Florence, and from 1815 to 1819 he was also prior of the convent of San Marcello in Rome. In 1818 he entered the service of the Roman Curia as a relator and was appointed consultor of the Index Congregation on January 30, 1820 , and on December 27, 1825, he was also appointed examiner of the bishops in theology.

Pope Leo XII. appointed Luigi Grati on December 15, 1828 titular bishop of Callinicum . The episcopal ordination donated him on 28 December of the same year Cardinal Giovanni Francesco Falzacappa ; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Costantino Patrizi Naro and Luigi Canestrari OM , Bishop of Montalto delle Marche . On September 18, 1829, Pope Pius VIII appointed him papal assistant to the throne . From 1829 to 1833 he was Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Terracina, Sezze e Priverno . Back in Rome, he was elected vicar general and prior general of his order on June 6, 1835. Pope Gregory XVI appointed him on January 14, 1834 consultor of the Holy Office .
