Lukas Mathies (born March 15, 1991 in Schruns ) is an Austrian snowboarder .

Career

Mathies mainly took part in the European Cup from 2006 to 2012. He drove his first World Cup race in January 2009 on the Kreischberg , which he finished in 31st place in the parallel giant slalom and thus also won his first World Cup points. At the Junior World Championships 2011 in Valmalenco , he won silver in the parallel giant slalom and gold in the parallel slalom. In the 2011/12 season he achieved a top ten finish in the World Cup for the first time with fifth place in Carezza . In January 2012 he made his first podium finish in the World Cup with second place in Sudelfeld . At the Snowboard World Championships in 2013 in Stoneham , he finished 28th in the parallel slalom and 16th in the parallel giant slalom.

At the beginning of the 2013/14 season , Mathies took third place in the parallel slalom and parallel giant slalom in Carezza . In January 2014, he won his first World Cup race in Rogla . At the beginning of February another podium followed with second place in the parallel giant slalom in Sudelfeld. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , he reached fifth place in the parallel slalom. He finished the season in third place in the parallel slalom classification and first place in the parallel giant slalom classification. The following season he was in the top ten three times in the World Cup. At the season highlight of the 2015 Snowboard World Championships on Kreischberg, he was tenth in the parallel giant slalom and sixth in the parallel slalom. His best World Cup result in the 2015/16 season was 12th in the parallel slalom in Bad Gastein and in the parallel giant slalom in Rogla.

In January 2017 Mathies was Austrian champion in the parallel slalom and parallel giant slalom in Hochficht in the Bohemian Forest (alongside Daniela Ulbing in the women). The following year he was Austrian champion in the parallel giant slalom in Gerlitzen . In the 2018/19 season he achieved five top ten placements in the World Cup, including second place in the parallel giant slalom in Pyeongchang . In addition, he won his second World Cup victory in the parallel slalom in Winterberg and at the end of the season he took tenth place in the parallel giant slalom world cup, fifth place in the parallel world cup and fourth place in the parallel slalom world cup. At the highlight of the season, the Snowboard World Championships 2019 in Park City , he finished 16th in the parallel slalom and sixth in the parallel giant slalom. At the end of March 2019 he was again Austrian champion in the parallel giant slalom in Radstadt .
