history

The first historical mention of Lutum comes from the early 11th century. At that time the settlement was called Lutenhem. The name known today will have arisen due to the sound shifts .

Lutum belonged to the parish parish Billerbeck . On July 1, 1969, this was incorporated into the city of Billerbeck.

population

The idyllic village is home to around 65 residents. This is largely to farm families and townspeople had moved in earlier Heuerling shäusern of farmers, Schulte nhöfen and Kotten live.

traffic

Lutum station (2008)

Lutum has its own train station on the Empel-Rees – Münster railway line and thus has direct connections to Coesfeld and Münster . In earlier years this line ran between Coesfeld and Lutum alongside the Duisburg – Quakenbrück line of the Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft in the direction of Rheine ; for this reason the place is still entered in the overview map of the route network of the Deutsche Bahn AG . Since 2010, the Baumbergebahn (Coesfeld - Münster) that emerged from the former Empel-Rees - Bocholt - Coesfeld - Münster line was expanded to run every half hour, and Lutum has acted as a crossing station.

The disused railway line to Rheine was expanded into a railway cycle path (" RadBahn Münsterland "), the southwest end of which is Lutum.

Lutum can be reached by car via the L 577 state road and the K 42 and K 36 district roads .

economy

Lutum is dominated by agriculture, there are only a few companies in the secondary and tertiary sector .
