Panglao is a Philippine island in the southwest of Bohol Province . It is connected to the city of Tagbilaran by two bridges . The island has an area of 99.25 km² and around 62,000 inhabitants (as of 2007). It is divided into the communities of Dauis (northeast) and Panglao (southwest).

Panglao is a popular tourist island that has many hotels and beaches. Alona Beach is the most famous beach on the island, but Danao Beach, Dumaluan Beach and other beaches are also enjoying increasing popularity. In the tourism industry, Panglao is sometimes offered as an alternative to the much better known Boracay . The beaches of Panglao are also used as a starting point for boat tours, for example to Virgin Island or Balicasag , and are also very popular with divers .

Since tourism on Bohol, and especially Panglao, has increased steadily in recent years, preparations for the construction of the Bohol-Panglao International Airport began in May 2008 . According to the original plan, this new international airport should start operating in April 2010 and make the island easier for tourists to reach. However, difficulties with the financing led to delays and the start of construction work for the 2.5 km long runway was repeatedly postponed. As a result, the completion of the runway was planned by December 2010, that of the terminal building half a year later. However, since the total costs for the construction of the airport had almost doubled since the beginning of the planning phase, the funds released by the government would have been used up by the time the runway was built. The implementation of the project was therefore further delayed. There were also considerations of financing the construction of the terminal from private investors. On March 23, 2013, the Japan International Cooperation Agency signed a contract with the Republic of Philippines under which the Japanese would build the airport for 10.78 billion yen. An opening was planned for 2016, later this date was corrected to 2017 and most recently to August 2018. Finally, the new airport was opened on November 27, 2018 by President Rodrigo Duterte .

On the north coast of Panglao you will find the Hinagdanan grotto with its underground lake. Countless bats live in the grotto. It got its name from Cebuano for Hagdan = leader. The name means that "a man descends on a ladder", which is supposed to commemorate the discovery.

Since 2013 there has been a tourist information office on Panglao Island Circumferential Road, not far from Alona Beach.
