Lutz Grumbach (born October 31, 1941 in Leipzig ) is a German graphic designer , graphic artist and exhibition designer . He lives and works in Halle (Saale) .

Live and act

Grumbach grew up in Leipzig. After graduating from high school in Leipzig in 1959, he studied from 1961 to 1966 at the College for Industrial Design in Halle, Burg Giebichenstein under the Bauhaus student Walter Funkat , who was then head of the commercial graphics class and rector of the college. Further teachers were Willi Sitte , Günter Gnauck and Meinolf Splett. He completed his studies with a diploma.

Working as a freelance artist in Halle (Saale) since 1966, Lutz Grumbach has created a diverse oeuvre not only as a graphic designer in the field of corporate design , but also as the designer responsible for the realization of numerous exhibitions, including their printed matter such as catalogs, posters, leaflets and signets . Characteristic for him is a functional rigor that is part of the Bauhaus tradition, which he is able to preserve through his organizing design means, even where he is sometimes guided more into the "narrative" by content specifications. The sphere of activity and success are not limited regionally to Halle. Grumbach was represented at numerous international poster biennials and triennials in Belgium , Finland , Hong Kong , Japan , Mexico and Poland . In 1984 he received for his poster (created with Bernd Morgner using a photograph by Werner Mahler) "Bread instead of dead - 'For peace and humanism, against the danger of a nuclear weapon war" "at the international poster competition in Moscow - with 4000 participants from 51 countries - the first prize. The work is considered one of the world's best posters.

Between 1974 and 1989, Grumbach organized exhibitions and participations in trade fairs for the combine progress agricultural machines in Leipzig, Paris , Moscow, Helsinki , Novi Sad , among others , and from 1984 he was also involved in exhibitions and trade fairs for the entire fashion industry in the GDR ( Ring- Messehaus (Leipzig) ). Since the early 1990s he has designed several exhibitions in the Francke Foundations , the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg , the Moritzburg Foundation / Art Museum of the State of Saxony-Anhalt and for the foundation of the Stadt- und Saalkreissparkasse Halle. In addition, there was a considerable number of sophisticated art catalogs and invitations, including for the Hallescher Kunstverein.

From his extensive artistic activities beyond Halle - to which the exemplary designed posters “Lyonel Feininger” ( Lyonel Feininger Gallery in Quedlinburg, 1985), “El Lissitzky” (Staatliche Galerie Moritzburg Halle, 1988), “50 Years End of the War in Halle "(1995)," The Lutherin - Katharina von Bora "(Lutherhalle Wittenberg, 1998)," Jewelry from Burg Giebichenstein "(Staatliche Galerie Moritzburg Halle, 2000)," Children are the rhythm of this world "(2001) belong - counts in particular his work for the research center for early romanticism and the Novalis Museum in Schloss Oberwiederstedt (Wiederstedt), which began in the mid-1990s, and which includes all equipment, permanent and temporary exhibitions as well as all publications.
