Lycium stenophyllum is a plant type from the genus of Lycium ( Lycium ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Lycium stenophyllum is an upright shrub that reaches heights of 0.8 to 2 m. The leaves are hairy, 2 to 20 mm long and 0.5 to 1.5 mm wide.

The flowers are hermaphrodite and fourfold. The calyx is bell-shaped and hairy. The calyx tube is 1 to 1.5 mm long and covered with 1 to 2.5 mm long calyx lobes. The crown is spreading and colored white to whitish-blue. The corolla tube reaches a length of 12 to 16 mm, the corolla lobes are 1 to 2 mm long. The anthers are tomentose on the lower 2.5 to 4 mm of the base.

The fruit is an egg-shaped berry that is 3 to 4.5 mm long and 3 to 4 mm wide. One to five seeds are formed per carpel .

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Occurrence

The species is widespread in South America and occurs there in Chile and Peru .

Systematics

Within the box thorn ( Lycium ), the species is grouped according to phylogenetic studies in a clade with other Argentine and Chilean species of the genus. However, these species are more closely related to an ancient clade than to a large clade to other species from the American continent. Closely related Argentine and Chilean species include Lycium ameghinoi , Lycium chanar , Lycium fuscum, and Lycium minutifolium .
