The Lynd River is a river in the north of the Australian state of Queensland . It is located in the Far North Queensland region . The Prussian explorer Ludwig Leichhardt gave the name in 1844.
Surname
In May 1845 Ludwig Leichhardt named the Lynd River on his first Australian expedition from 1844 to 1845 after the British officer Robert Lynd, who supported him in Sydney.

River course
The river has its source about 140 km southwest of Innisfail and about 130 km east of Georgetown in the Forty Mile Scrub National Park on the Kennedy Highway . The area belongs to the Atherton Tablelands , part of the Great Dividing Range . The Lynd River flows northwest. It passes Bulleringa National Park near Torwood in the north and the States River National Park near Bulimba in the east. Then it crosses under the Burke Developmental Road about 15 km east of Highbury and flows into the Mitchell River .
