Lynn Seaton

Lynn Seaton (born July 18, 1957 in Tulsa , Oklahoma ) is an American jazz bassist and university professor.

biography

Lynn Seaton first learned classical guitar and switched to double bass at the age of nine. He began his professional career in Ohio with the Steve Schmidt Trio. From 1980 to 1984 he was the house bassist at the Blue Wisp Jazz Club in Cincinnati , then went to Woody Herman and in 1985 to the Count Basie Orchestra , with whom he toured the world for two years. From 1986 he lived in New York and worked for Tony Bennett , George Shearing and in 1991/92 for Monty Alexander . 1995-99 he was a member of the Jeff Hamilton Trio. As a freelance musician he played after 1993 a. a. with Toshiko Akiyoshi , Ernestine Anderson , Buck Clayton , Al Cohn , Kenny Drew Jr. , Blossom Dearie , Sweets Edison , Herb Ellis , Frank Foster , Tim Hagans , Scott Hamilton , Winard Harper , Thad Jones , Mel Lewis , Marian McPartland , Jay McShann , Mark Murphy , Ken Peplowski , Bucky Pizzarelli , Jimmy Raney , Emily Remler , Diane Schuur , Maria Schneider , Bud Shank , Maxine Sullivan , Mel Tormé , Frank Wess , Joe Williams and Teddy Wilson . In 1998 he went to the University of North Texas , where he has been teaching the jazz program ever since. He released three albums under his own name, Bassman's Basement (1991, with Tim Horner ), Solo Flights ( OmniTone , 1996) and Puttin 'on the Ritz .

In 2006, Lynn Seaton was inducted into the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame .
