The L45H series diesel locomotives from the Romanian vehicle and machine manufacturer FAUR were built for various Eastern European railway administrations and industrial companies between 1967 and 1985.

history

A total of 334 locomotives of this type were built.

The L45H in the individual countries

Poland: The Polish state railway PKP procured 165 machines in the gauges 750 mm, 785 mm and 1000 mm.

Romania: In Romania, 112 locomotives were used by the Căile Ferate Industri and the Căile Ferate Forestiere , among others , but many of them have since been sold abroad.

Hungary: In 1972 ten locomotives were delivered to MÁV . Mk45 2001 to 2006 were used on the Budapest Children's Railway , 2007 to 2010 on the Hegyközer Narrow Gauge Railway , after which it was discontinued until its transfer to Budapest in 1994 on the Nyírvidék Narrow Gauge Railway ( Nyíregyháza - Dombrád or Nyíregyháza - Balsa ). These railways have or had a track width of 760 mm. These machines run daily on the children's railway, and on weekends there are also diesel multiple units or trains pulled by steam locomotives .

Later whereabouts

Germany: Only after German reunification were locomotives with the 750 mm gauge used. Three of the narrow-gauge vehicles belong to the Saxon Steam Railway Company . This uses the locomotives in service and repeater traffic. Two more locomotives were bought to donate spare parts. In addition, the Saxon-Upper Lusatian Railway Company has owned a machine of the type since the end of 2009 . The former 87-0029 was modernized in Zittau from September 2011 and re-engineered as 199 018. It has television cameras in the front lights so that one-man operation is possible. Two more locomotives (87-0024, 87-0026) serve as spare parts donors.

France: The Chemins de Fer de la Corse bought in mid-2004 a total of nine machines through their consortium Metric Rail and let them to 1000 mm ( meter gauge ) umspuren . After initial difficulties, due to the great gradients and temperature differences in Corsica , the machines were given new diesel engines . They are used today in construction train service.

Austria: In 2002 the Austrian Society for Local Railways (ÖGLB) acquired the L45H-089 of the works railway of the Romanian copper mine Suior for its museum operation on the mountain route of the Ybbstalbahn and renamed it in 2099.01. The machine was reconditioned to be used for construction and museum trains.

The market town of Stainz acquired the L45H-070 from the Romanian narrow-gauge railway SC Calea Ferata Ingusta SRL in Criscior from Brad in 2010 and has been using it for museum traffic on the Stainzerbahn since it was approved in May 2012 .

Switzerland : In 2014, the overhead contact line construction company Furrer + Frey acquired a locomotive (CFR 87-0023-9) from Romania, which will be used in front of the company's construction trains after re-gauging to 1000 mm and various conversions under the number Gmf 4/4 90.

Serbia: The Serbian State Railways acquired four locomotives for the operation of the tourist and museum railway Šarganska osmica in western Serbia. They received the series designation 745 while retaining the serial numbers.

Constructive features

To accommodate the gearbox, the engine was mounted very high, the stems went up to the full height. The restricted view made it necessary to drive the locomotive with two men.
