The V43 series of Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) is a series of electric locomotives . She is nicknamed "Szili".

history

The license for the V43 series was acquired in 1960 by the working group for planning and implementation for 50 Hz rail electrification . The first seven locomotives (numbers 1001-1007) were still manufactured by the consortium in the Krupp locomotive and wagon construction factory in Essen , while the V43-1008 were already manufactured in Hungary by Ganz-Mávag . The last locomotive was the V43-1379.

The traction motors are fed with electricity via a silicon rectifier system, from which their nickname “Szili” comes. Since 1999 some locomotives have been modernized. These vehicles belong to the V43.2 series and are nicknamed “Papagáj-Szili” (Parrot-Szili) because of their colorful paintwork.

The GySEV ( Raab-Oedenburg-Ebenfurter Eisenbahn ) bought or exchanged 15 V43 units from the MÁV , because the MÁV needed diesel locomotives in the 80s and the GySEV carried out an electrification program from 1987 to 1988. So all GySEV locomotives of the M41 series - seven of them - were exchanged for 7 V43 series locomotives, whereby it was ensured that the respective locomotives had the same residual value in the accounting. The other locomotives were then bought. Until the use of the ÖBB 1014 series , they were the only electric locomotives used on the Sopron - Ebenfurth route .

commitment

The V43 series is the MÁV's universal locomotive. The V43 are stationed in Budapest -Ferencváros, Szolnok , Miskolc , Nyíregyháza , Békéscsaba , Szeged , Győr , Szombathely , Dombóvár and Székesfehérvár and haul all types of trains. The V43.2 series is stationed exclusively in Szolnok. The GySEV locomotives are based in Sopron (Ödenburg). They rarely occur abroad due to the lack of multi-system capability , at most in Bratislava (Preßburg) and Ebenfurth .

Conversion to V43.3

From 2007 MÁV modernized some V43s in order to be able to use the "new" Wittenberg control cars , which they had received with the Halberstadt center-entry car from Deutsche Bahn , in push-pull service. For this purpose, the locomotives were given time-multiplex push-pull control and frequency-multiplex train control. In addition, the vehicles that were converted in this way received an air conditioning system , a new paint job and a few other improvements, which were primarily intended to facilitate troubleshooting and improve operation for the locomotive crew. The locomotives converted in this way can be recognized by the new designation as V43.3, on the yellow front, which now extends into the roof and ends here in strips, and on the two UIC sockets under the window of the driver's cab .
