Mário Pacheco (musician)

Armindo Mário Rates Pacheco (born April 9, 1953 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese guitarist and operator of a Fado bar.

Career

Mário Pacheco attended music school and studied guitar. He is also a graphic artist and worked in advertising, but then chose fado as a profession. He followed his father, who was also a professional guitarist, u. a. for the fado singer Hermínia Silva . Pacheco played classical guitar (port .: viola ) from 1969 to 1985 , a. a. with António Chainho , and since then the Portuguese guitar (port .: Guitarra ). He is also a composer of fado pieces.

In 1995 he founded the “ Clube de Fado ” in Lisbon's Alfama , which has since served both top-class artists and prominent guests.

He was named Best Composer 2006 by the Amália Rodrigues Foundation . In 2007 he received the Top of the world award from the British world music magazine Songlines for his album Clube de Fado : recorded in the castle of Queluz , his compositions are sung by guest singers Mariza , Camané , Ana Sofia Varela and Rodrigo Costa Félix .

In the 2007 film Fados by Carlos Saura , Pacheco accompanied the fado singer Maria Severa, played by Cuca Roseta .
