Mário Rino Sivieri
Mário Rino Sivieri (born April 15, 1942 in Castelmassa , Province of Rovigo , † June 3, 2020 in Aracaju , Brazil ) was an Italian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Propriá .
Life
Mário Rino Sivieri received after his theological training on July 3, 1966 from Pope Paul VI. the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Biella . Since 1968 he has worked as a pastor in the Brazilian state of Sergipe and led the National Campaign for Community Schools (CNEC). He was committed to the care and welfare of drug addicts and founded the Fazenda da Esperança in Lagarto , an organization that now operates in 24 countries with 146 facilities and helps 3,500 young people with drug withdrawal. Several social projects followed. Between 1961 and 1997 he was pastor in the Church of Nossa Senhora da Piedade in Lagarto.
On March 18, 1997, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Propriá. The Bishop of Estância , Hildebrando Mendes Costa , donated him episcopal ordination in the Cathedral of Propriá on May 25 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the coadjutor archbishop of Aracaju , José Palmeira Lessa , and the bishop of Paulo Afonso , Mário Zanetta . He adopted “Ominium Servus” (servant of all) as the episcopal motto.
On October 25, 2017, Pope Francis accepted Sivieri's resignation. Sivieri then lived on the Fazenda da Esperança . The naturalized Brazilian, known as Dom Mário , died in June 2020 at the age of 78 from complications from an erysipelas infection related to his diabetes and a stroke in the hospital in Aracaju.
Honors
On December 12, 2016, Bishop Mário Rino Sivieri was honored by the regional parliament of the Sergipe state and received the human rights medal "Dom José Vicente Távora" in recognition of his commitment to the lives of the poorest, especially the youth.
