The Märzenbach is a 4 km long brook in the Hohenlohe district in northeastern Baden-Württemberg , which flows into the Jagst from the right and east at Mulfingen- Mittelberg .

geography

course

The Märzenbach arises on the Hohenloher level about 1.2 km east of Mulfingen -Simprechtshausen on the northern edge of the Hegennest forest as a ditch next to a grass path . It initially runs northwest next to dirt roads and between fields until it has reached the edge of the L 1022, which comes from Herrentierbach and Alkertshausen in the east and then follows the gently deepening valley of the brook that now runs roughly to the west. Then it reaches the northeastern edge of the Mulfingen village of Simprechtshausen in its now meadow-filled hollow and crosses it. The state road changes here over it to the right side of the valley, at this point there is a small pond of less than 0.1 ha in the course.

Immediately afterwards, from about 410  m above sea level. NN , the Märzenbach plunges its steep and in the upper two thirds of the wooded limestone blade down, a less than 1.8 km long, block-rich section of the course, on which it loses 110 meters in height. The L 1022 pulls more slowly towards the valley on the right slope and turns at the exit of the blade along the Jagsttal slope down the valley towards Mulfingen. In the again flatter blade outlet on the right Jagsttal slope, the Märzenbach passes the Mittelberg residential area and is crossed by the L 1025 following the Jagsttal here on the lower right slope. Then the brook runs another half a kilometer to the northwest over the long, drawn out right Jagsttalhang and then flows, another 20 meters lower, after a run of about 4.0 km, from the right into the middle Jagst , about a kilometer before this reaches the outskirts of Mulfingen.

Catchment area

The Märzenbach has a catchment area of 3.3 km². It stretches almost 4 km in east-west direction, across it it is mostly less than 1 km wide, with a thickening in the east and a late wedge towards the mouth in the west. Neighboring catchment areas are those of the larger Roggelshäuser Bach in the north and east, on a small section in the southeast of the also larger Rötelbach and in the south and southwest of the short Lausenbach , which runs almost parallel to the Märzenbach and like the others to the Jagst.

The highest point in the catchment area is at its southeastern tip in the Hegennest on a forest path star at 465  m above sea level. NHN . In the northeast, heights over 460  m above sea level are twice at the border . Reached NHN . In the entire area of the plateau, except on the edge of the Jagsttal in the west, the terrain is almost always over 430  m above sea level. NHN , it then falls rapidly into this.

The entire stream lies on the municipal marker of Mulfingen and almost the entire catchment area, with the exception of only 15-16 hectares of uninhabited forest in the Hegennest , which belong to Blaufelden in the Schwäbisch Hall district .

The greater part of the catchment area is in open fields, the majority of which is arable land. The only settlement areas are the village of Simprechtshausen, which is like a thicker ferrule on the left side of the top edge of the stream, and part of the small residential area Mittelberg, which is on a ridge running down the right Jagst valley slope between the nearby hollows of Märzenbach in the north and Lausenbach in the South stands.

Inflow system

The Märzenbach has only a fairly significant river inflow. It arises on the north-western tip of the Hegennest at just under 450  m above sea level. NN and joins the Märzenbach after around 450 meters along field paths on the edge of the L 1022, where this is only about 700 meters long. Both runs often fall dry in their upper sections.

nature and environment

From around the entrance to the ridge of the brook, the Märzenbachtal belongs to the 54 km² Jagsttal nature reserve with side valleys and adjacent areas between the Schwäbisch Hall district boundary and the Krautheim / Schöntal community boundary . Protected biotopes follow the stream from here. On the lower right slope of the Jagst valley above the lower reaches, stone bar biotopes bear witness to earlier viticulture.
