The Rötelbach is almost 10 km long river on the Hohenlohe plain in northern Baden-Württemberg , which flows from the right into the middle Jagst after an initially north and after a large left bend at the end southwest in the village of Eberbach in the municipality of Mulfingen in the Hohenlohe district .

geography

course

The Rötelbach rises about 400 m northeast of the castle and hamlet of Ludwigsruhe on the district of Langenburg in the Streitwiesen and is straightened from the source. First, the stream flows north, past the Streitbrunnen , crosses under the L 1036 Langenburg – Blaufelden, runs a short stretch on the other side and then again as an open, field-accompanying ditch through the Brühlsee district , where remains of dams are preserved in at least two places. Then he steps between the forest Won Baier forest left and the sticks of wood right into a larger forest area one that he now pervades in natural course. Right at the beginning he changes to the Billingsbach district of the neighboring municipality of Blaufelden and then develops a valley trough instead of his previous trough. Here, he takes over the Dachsbühl from the right Weilersbach on, which rises in the deserted village Lampert Hausen.

Below the ruins of Hertenstein Castle flows the Rötelbach from right in Hertenstein mill of billing Bach to, then he pulls through his turn wooded valley to the west, changes to the Eberbacher boundaries of the Municipality Mulfingen and then take quick succession right to Mittelbach and Sonnenbach on . Then it flows on, accompanied by wood , in a meadow, takes - again from the right - the stream through the Taubenhofklinge , turns for its last good kilometer to the southwest, crosses Eberbach and then flows into the Jagst from the right . The stream flows almost entirely through uninhabited and forest or agricultural areas.

The Rötelbach is 9.8 km long, its bed digs itself on this route with an average bottom gradient of 20 ‰ by about 199 meters.

Catchment area

The Rötelbach drains 28.8 km² of the natural areas of the Eastern Hohenlohe Plain and Bartenstein-Langenburger Platten , and finally also a smaller part, which is already part of the Middle Jagsttal natural area . Its catchment area borders in the north on those of the smaller right brooks to the Jagst further downstream, in the north-west on that of the more important Ette , which competes over its left upper course Tierbach . The eastern watershed separates a long time from the drainage area of the Blaubach , which flows into the Brettach , which flows further up into the Jagst, in the southeast and south the Brettach itself comes very close to the border. To the west of the Rötelbach, the Holderbach also moves in a smaller arc than the Rötelbach to the Jagst.

The largest elevations in the catchment area can be found on the eastern watershed to the Blaubach, where the ridge is only a few meters above or below 490  m above sea level. NN lies.

Above the source of the brook, a small gusset of the catchment area belongs to the city of Gerabronn , but most of the uppermost catchment area is in the area of the small town of Langenburg . According to this, the municipality of Blaufelden has the largest area share on both sides of the middle course , most recently the municipality of Mulfingen am Unterlauf the second largest, which is the only one in the Hohenlohe district , while the other three belong to the Schwäbisch Hall district .

geology

The Rötelbach rises in the Unterkeuper edition, which mostly covers the undulating plateau in a thin layer, which is formed by the Upper Muschelkalk . In it the brook runs after an initially very shallow hollow before it enters the forest. In the forest begins its rather steep Kerbtal, to which the larger tributaries then run through blades typical of the landscape . Shortly before the inlet of the Mittelbach, from which it runs to the west, the stream reaches the Middle Muschelkalk , whereupon the bottom of the valley widens noticeably and the open corridor begins. From the outskirts of Eberbach to the nearby mouth, it finally flows in the Lower Muschelkalk . The larger hill heights are often Lössderivat layers of aeolian deposits in Quaternary on.

In several places, especially in the northern catchment area, the karstification of the shell limestone can be seen in sinkholes and stream shrinkages . For example, across from Brüchlingen, on the upper right-hand edge of the valley above the western course in the Ghäu forest, there is a chain of sinkholes and an active sinkhole.
