The Mühlsteinberg ( 482  m ) is a mountain in the eastern part of the Zittau Mountains . Its wooded summit is in the Hartau district in the city of Zittau .

location

The Mühlsteinberg is located northeast of Lückendorf . To the east, the mountain falls to the Weißbachtal , which forms the German-Czech border. On the northern slope, the state road S 132 leads from Eichgraben to Lückendorf ( Gabler Straße ) over the hairpin bend on the saddle to Heideberg and bypasses the Mühlsteinberg to the west. To the southeast rise on the Czech side the Hahnberg ( Kohoutí vrch , 535  m nm ), Lindenberg ( Sedlecký Špičák , 544  m nm ) and the Pfaffenstein ( Popova skála , 565  m nm ), south of the Straßberg ( 538  m ) and west of the Heideberg ( 549  m ). In the northeast, the Lerchenhöhe ( 287  m ) is upstream. The Goldbach rises in the König-Johann-Quelle at the northern foot of the Mühlsteinberg.

The mountain is surrounded in the north by Eichgraben and Neuhartau, in the northeast by Görsdorf ( Loučná ) and in the southwest by Lückendorf.

description

The summit is formed by a sandstone rock, about 100 m to the northwest of it is the rock tower "Mühlsteinnadel". The high forest on the Mühlsteinberg was cut down at the end of the 1960s, with the exception of a few mighty beeches, giving a largely unobstructed view of the Zittau basin . Today the mountain is forested again and overgrown with blueberry bushes. The treetops prevent a view.

To the south of the Mühlsteinberg, on the saddle of the Straßberg, are the remains of the Karlsfried Geleitsburg and the owl stones. On the way from Mühlsteinberg to Karlsfried stands the Klothildenstein at Klothildenhöhe. The Mühlstein table is located on the northwest slope at the upper exit of the hairpin curve.

Klothildenstein

The one meter high and one and a half meter wide smooth sandstone rock is located on the left side of the path to Karlsfried under tall trees. It was prepared in 1907 by the mountain association "Globus" on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the death of General Postmaster Heinrich von Stephan . In the lower part he received a line of writing with the saying "HIC MIHI PRAETER OMNES ANGULUS RIDET" ("That corner smiled at me before everyone else on earth") from Horace , above was a round stone tablet with the coat of arms of the Universal Postal Union .

Stephan has been a guest at the Lückendorf forester's lodge several times since the 1880s and in 1884 he shot a big capercaillie on the Straßberg. After the leg amputation, he was cared for by his housekeeper Mathilde Anna Hahn. In her honor, the memorial stone was named "Mathildenstein", which the vernacular changed to "Klothildenstein".

After the end of the Second World War, the coat of arms was broken out of the rock. The inscription is now hardly legible.

Millstone table

The Mühlsteintisch, also called Steinerner Tisch, is a resting place at the upper exit of the hairpin curve at the confluence of Alte Gabler Straße. It consists of a millstone resting on a column and a semicircular stone bench. On the side of the millstone that serves as the tabletop, the year 1848 is carved.

The sandstone seat was built in 1848 after the completion of the new serpentine of Gabler Strasse on the northern slope of the Mühlsteinberg, with which the steep ascent from the Goldbach spring at Brückborn on the saddle between Heideberg and Mühlsteinberg could be avoided.
