The Sildberin is a passenger ferry from the Faroe Islands . It runs between Sandur and Skúvoy .

In addition to the helicopter service from Atlantic Airways is Sildberin the only public transport that connects the inhabitants of Skúvoy with the outside world.

Origin and meaning

The name Sildberin is Faroese and literally means "the herring carrier".

This refers to the lundi (puffin), which can pick up up to 20 small fish with its beak without losing the ones it has already picked up - a natural phenomenon that has not yet been clarified .

The 35-minute crossing on ferry line 66 takes place two to three times a day. The Sildberin enables inexpensive day trips to the home of Sigmundur Brestisson , whose grave on Skúvoy is one of the country's main attractions.
