Marum ( listen ? / I ) was a municipality in the Dutch province of Groningen . It had 10,485 inhabitants (as of September 30, 2018) on an area of ​​64.89 km². Apart from Grootegast, Marum was the only bilingual municipality in the province, as Westerkwartiers ( Lower Saxony ) and West Frisian are spoken in the villages of Marum and De Wilp . Due to the merger on January 1, 2019, the elections for the council of the new Westerkwartier municipality took place on November 21, 2018.

From May 1, 2013 until the municipality was dissolved, Henk Kosmeijer ( PvdA ) was the acting mayor of the municipality. His colleagues included the councilors Jan Vos (PvdA), Janny Hulshoff-Oost ( VVD ), Hans de Graaf ( ChristenUnie ) and the municipal secretary Jan Jellema.
