The second generation of the Countryman (internal designation: F60 ) was presented at the LA Auto Show in November 2016 . This grew by around 20 centimeters in length and 3.5 centimeters in width compared to the previous model.
At the market launch on February 11, 2017, the second generation was initially offered with two gasoline and two diesel engines. These are all available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive . At the end of May 2020, Mini presented a revised version of the Countryman. The market launch was in July 2020.
Cooper SE Countryman
With the Cooper SE Countryman, Mini is also offering a plug-in hybrid for the first time . This takes over the drive from the BMW 225xe Active Tourer . The Otto engine known from the Cooper drives the front wheels, while a 65 kW (88 PS) electric motor drives the rear axle. According to the NEDC driving cycle, the SE has an electric range of 40 kilometers and an electric top speed of 125 km / h. The 7.6 kWh (gross) lithium-ion battery can be fully charged in 3.25 hours at a household socket. In mid-2019, the battery capacity was increased to 10 kWh. The electric range increased to up to 57 km.

Rally sport
In the 2011 season, Mini took part in selected races of the World Rally Championship (WRC) with a World Rally Car version (1600 cm³ with turbocharging) of the Countryman developed in collaboration with Prodrive . With the works drivers Dani Sordo and Kris Meeke that took Mini WRC Team in the 2011 season at six rallies in part: Italy , Finland , Germany , France , Catalonia and Wales . The Prodrive team's John Cooper Works S2000, which was presented in Geneva , already started at the Rally Portugal from March 24th to 27th . At the 2011 Rallye Deutschland , Dani Sordo achieved third place overall. At the Rally France he finished second overall. At the 2011 Dakar Rally , the German private team X-Raid used a Mini Countryman ( Mini All4 Racing ) as a competition vehicle for the first time . In contrast to the World Rally Championship, it was an off-road vehicle in the prototype class, which technically does not have to be related to the production vehicle, but the silhouette was based on the production model of the Countryman. On the rest day of the Dakar Rally, Guerlain Chicherit retired after a rollover during a test drive, while he was 9th overall. At the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge 2011, Stéphane Peterhansel took the first victory in the MINI All4 Racing. At the 2012 Dakar Rally , the X-Raid team competed with five MINI All4 Racing cars and achieved overall victory as well as places 2, 4, 8 and 10 in the overall "Auto" classification. Another overall victory and positions 3 and 4 were achieved at the 2013 Dakar Rally .
