In 1904, disagreements between the board of directors and the "racing team" led to the founding of another swimming club in Magdeburg, the SC Hellas Magdeburg . Even so, the remaining active swimmers of the MSC from 1896 achieved 11 victories in 1904.

Magdeburg developed into the stronghold of swimming in Germany . The most successful members of the MSC in 1896 were: Oskar Schiele , Hugo Vollmayer , Carl Gubener , Walter Prophet , Otto Bendung , Fritz Görges , Willy Kempf , Wilhelm Lützow .

In the period up to the First World War, Oskar Schiele was the most successful swimmer in Magdeburg's history as the “96er”. At the swimming federation festival in Bremen in 1925, the club won three German championship titles. The win over 1500 m freestyle by 17-year-old Werner Neitzel was remarkable . In the following years, the freestyle relay was the domain of the “96”, so in 1926 in Düsseldorf , 1927 in Hanover , 1928 in Berlin , 1930 in Munich , 1933 in Weimar , 1934 in Nuremberg and 1935 in Plauen and Magdeburg.

With the support of many volunteers, the new European swimming arena was built right next to the Neue Welt stadium . Germany won the European Cup of Nations ahead of Hungary with six gold, nine silver and four bronze medals. Active swimmers from the MSC from 1896 also contributed to the good result.

After the end of the war, all sports clubs in the Soviet occupation zone were banned. " Company sports associations " (BSG) were later formed . In the BSG, swimmers and water polo players from the former Magdeburg swimming clubs MSC von 1896, SC Hellas and SC Poseidon came together. After the reconstruction of the Wilhelmbad (later Stadtbad), the only swimming facility of the time, they began again with training and competitions.
