Machina II / The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music is the sixth music album by the Smashing Pumpkins . It is the second concept album after Machina / The Machines of God and was released on September 5, 2000 on the Internet under the band's own label Constantinople Records.
Background and publication
Virgin did n't want to release Machina II so soon after Machina / The Machines of God , which is also due to the rather moderate success of the album. So only 25 copies of Machina II were made and these were sent to particularly die-hard fans. Shortly afterwards it was made available as a farewell present for fans to download free of charge from the Internet. There are two versions of this. One version is based on Virgin's internal promotional recordings. The second version results from digitizing the vinyl version with different quality. A high quality version comes from radio station Q101, which had digitized one of the 25 original releases with professional equipment. The download is possible in various formats such as FLAC , Ogg and MP3 .
Originally it was supposed to be the last album of the Smashing Pumpkins, but a new studio album was released in 2007 after a long break under the title Zeitgeist .
