Zeitgeist is the seventh music album by the Smashing Pumpkins , the first after their reunification. It was recorded by Jimmy Chamberlin on drums and Billy Corgan (everything else). For the first time Jimmy Chamberlin appears alongside Billy Corgan as a producer.

Emergence

After Billy Corgan had expressed his wish for a renewal of the Smashing Pumpkins in the Chicago Tribune on June 21, 2005 , it was soon heard from Jimmy Chamberlin that he would participate. For a long time, none of the other Pumpkin members commented publicly on this subject. In fact, it stayed with this two-man line-up for the new Smashing Pumpkins album. On April 20, 2006 it was announced on the official website of the band that the recording of the new record had started. A little later, Roy Thomas Baker was announced as producer .

Versions

Different versions of the album were released, which is particularly reflected in the color of the cover (New York Statue of Liberty, which sinks in the floods). There is also a version with a 76-page book, as well as various editions with an "exclusive" bonus track. For example, a version of the album is being published by the online mail order company Amazon.de that contains the 12 standard tracks and Death From Above as an additional title. In the USA, the Best Buy chain has also released a reissue version with a bonus DVD.

Reviews

In particular, the publication policy with the many covers and the exclusive material caused some upset. The album itself was rated very differently, for example All Music only gave 2 out of 5 stars, while Rolling Stone Magazine and the editorial team of laut.de gave it 4 out of 5 points. The album made a high debut in the charts, but it sank again quite quickly.
