Madara Palameika (born June 18, 1987 in Talsi , Latvian SSR , USSR ) is a Latvian javelin thrower .

Athletic career

Her first international tournament played Palameika on August 15, 2006 with the participation in the World Junior Athletics Championships 2006 in Beijing . There she was eliminated in the qualification with a width of 46.34 m. At the World Athletics Championships in Berlin in 2009 , she reached a width of 52.98 m and thus the 14th place in the preliminary round. Subsequently, she was able to win the gold medal at the U23 European Championships in Kaunas in 2009, where she also set her personal best and a championship record. At the European Athletics Championships in Barcelona in 2010 , she made it to the final for the first time and came eighth there with a width of 60.78 m.

In 2011 she reached the final again at the World Championships in Daegu and finished eleventh with 58.08 m. At the European Championships in 2012 and the Olympic Games in London , she was eighth. A year later she was eliminated from qualifying at the World Championships in Moscow , as well as at the World Championships in Beijing two years later. In 2016 she finished seventh at the European Championships in Amsterdam with 60.39 m. She finished in tenth place at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . In 2016 she also secured the overall ranking of the IAAF Diamond League . She won the last two events and set a new Latvian record of 66.18 m in the final competition in Brussels . In 2017 she took part in the World Championships in London, but did not make it to the final with 59.54 m . The following year, however, she managed to do this at the European Championships in Berlin, where she finished ninth with 57.98 m in the final.

In 2019 Palameika won the bronze medal at the European Games in Minsk with 63.22 m and had to admit defeat to Belarusian Tazzjana Chaladowitsch and Yekaterina Starygina from Russia. At the end of September she also took part again in the World Championships in Doha , where she was eliminated again with 59.95 m in qualification .

From 2009 to 2011, 2014 and 2015 as well as 2017 and 2019, Palameika became the Latvian javelin champion.
