The ship was built as the seventh in a series of ten identical container ships at the Philippine shipyard Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction. The keel was laid on February 19 and the launch on July 21, 2014. The ship was completed on December 16, 2014 and launched as Maersk Tigris in charter from the Danish shipping company Mærsk Line. The ship , which operates under the flag of the Marshall Islands , was managed by Rickmers Shipmanagement in Singapore.

The ship was arrested by the Iranian Navy in the Strait of Hormuz on April 28, 2015 and taken to the roadstead in front of the port of Bandar Abbas . A legal dispute between Mærsk Line and an Iranian company was given as the background. The ship was released on May 7th. There were 24 crew members on board .

The vessel is powered by a MAN - diesel engine driven type MAN B & W 6G 80ME-C9.2. Four generators from Hyundai Engine & Machinery (Type Himsen 6H25 / 33 or Type Himsen 7H25 / 33) and an emergency generator are available for the power supply.
There are 5,466 20-foot spaces available for containers . With a homogeneous load of 14 ton containers, the ship can load 3,612 TEU . There are 594 connections for refrigerated containers.
