The Magnus Heinason is a fisheries research vessel owned by the Havstovan in Tórshavn , Faroe Islands . It is named after the Faroese-Norwegian sea hero Magnus Heinason .

history

The ship's hull was under the hull number 81 on the shipyard built Rolf Rekdal. The keel was laid in August 1977, the launch in March 1978. The ship was equipped at the Langsten Slip & Båtbyggeri shipyard in Tomrefjord . It was completed on June 30, 1978. The ship was put into service as a stern catcher . In 1982 it was converted into a fisheries research ship.

The ship will primarily be used for research in the waters around the Faroe Islands. The daily cost of the ship is around 80,000  DKK .

Due to the age of the ship, it is planned to replace it with a new building.

Technical data and equipment

The drive of the vessel by a four-stroke cycle - six cylinder - diesel engine manufacturer MaK (type: 6M452AK) with 1325  kW power , via a reduction gear to a variable-pitch propeller with Kort nozzle acts. Two generators powered by MTU diesel engines, each with an output of 288 kW, are available to generate electricity .

The ship is equipped for trawling . It has several winches . The ship is also equipped with a sonar system , echo sounders and other equipment for research work. There is a crane each in the aft and fore section. The crane in the stern area can lift up to 5 t.

The hull of the ship is reinforced with ice ( ice class C).

The ship is operated by 12 to 13 crew members . There is also space for five scientists.
