Mahir Şükürov ( Azerbaijani Mahir Ağateyyub oğlu Şükürov , Turkish Mahir Şükürov , born December 12, 1982 in Sumqayıt ) is an Azerbaijani football player . With 75 international appearances, he is the Azerbaijani national player with the fourth most appearances.

Career

society

Şükürov began his professional career in 2003 at FK Gənclərbirliyi Sumqayıt , the club in his hometown Sumqayıt. In 2004 he first moved to FK Shafa Baku and a little later to the Turkish second division team Antalyaspor . At this club he was used on the first day of the season against Karşıyaka SK and then no longer considered in the squad planning. So Şükürov terminated his contract in December 2004 by mutual agreement and returned to his homeland. At his new club, FK Karvan Yevlax , he established himself as a top performer and contributed to the fact that his club ended the 2004/05 third in the table and the 2005/06 season even as runner-up.

The good performances at Karvan meant that Şükürov was signed by Neftçi Baku in the summer of 2006 . Here he stayed only one season and then moved to league and city rivals İnter Baku . With İnter he only stayed until the winter break and moved to the second half of the season to league rivals FK Xəzər Lənkəran . With this club he succeeded in winning the Azerbaijani Cup . Despite this success, Şükürov left his employer again and was signed by FK Olimpik Baku for the coming season .

For the 2009/10 season Şükürov returned to İnter Baku. In contrast to his first time, this time he quickly established himself in the team and became Azerbaijani champions with his team at the end of the season . After this success, the Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala signed Şükürov for a transfer fee of 200,000 euros.

After a season at Makhachkala, Şükürov returned to Azerbaijan and was signed by FK Qəbələ . After just one season, Şükürov changed clubs again and this time moved to Neftçi Baku. With this club he became Azerbaijani champions and cup winners in the 2012/13 season. As a result, he won the Azerbaijani double for the first time in his career . In the following season, although the title defense in the championship failed, but the cup title could be defended.

For the 2014/15 season he moved to the Turkish TFF 1st Lig for the west Turkish representative Karşıyaka SK . Since he is an Azerbaijani citizen, he will play here under a native status and therefore will not take a regular foreigner place.

National team

Şükürov made his debut for the Azerbaijani national team in the qualifying game of the 2006 World Cup on September 8, 2004 against the Austrian national team . Afterwards he was one of the national players who were regularly nominated for his country and wore the captain's armband several times. With 75 international appearances, he is one of the players with the most appearances for the Azerbaijani selection.
