The Malteser Orchestra is the musical train of the Malteser Aid Service and belongs to the Paderborn diocesan structure .

history

The Maltese Orchestra was founded by the joint initiative of the Brackwede City Orchestra and the Paderborn Diocesan Association of Malta.

The orchestra was founded in 1913 in Bielefeld -Brackwede, North Rhine-Westphalia . In the first few years it played as the Brackwede fire brigade band and was promoted to the Bielefeld district fire brigade orchestra from 1930. After the Second World War, the orchestra was converted into a local orchestra and when Brackwede became a town in 1956, it was named a town orchestra.

In the following years u. a. numerous professional musicians were won as conductors (Paul Gieske - Heeresmusikkorps Hannover , Manfred Arnold - Semperoper , Rainer Reckling - Heeresmusikkorps Hannover, Heinz Katzmarek - Northwest German Philharmonic ), which gave the orchestra a musical boom. To mark the 100th anniversary, a gala concert was held in 2013 with the world musical star Deborah Sasson .

In the summer of 2018, the company was restructured as a Maltese orchestra based in Bielefeld and integrated into the Malteser Aid Service , which is a work of the Order of Malta (SMOM).

The first public appearance as the Maltese orchestra took place on June 24, 2018 at the Johannisfest in Paderborn in the presence of Stephan Holthoff-Pförtner , Minister for Federal and European Affairs and International Affairs of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia .
