Malvasía Rosada

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Malvasía Rosada is a red wine variety and one of many varieties from the Malvasia family that grows in Spain . It is probably an old grape variety that emerged from a color mutation of the Malvasía de Sitges variety . Malvasía Rosada is one of the authorized varieties for DO - wines from the Spanish wine regions Abona , Tacoronte-Acentejo , Valle de Güímar , Valle de la Orotava and Ycoden-Daute-Isora (all Tenerife) and El Hierro , Gran Canaria , La Gomera and La Palma .

The late-ripening variety is vigorous, but due to its susceptibility to vine diseases, it only delivers very irregular yields. The grape must makes a pleasant wine with a very delicate aroma .

The cultivation of the variety is only recommended in the Canary Islands .

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The tip of the shoot is open, hairy whitish and has a crimson tinge. The yellowish young leaves are hairy with spider webs and spotted bronze ( anthocyanin spots).
  • The leaves are five-lobed and deeply indented (see also leaf shape ). The stalk bay is lyren- shaped open; the blade is bluntly serrated. The teeth are medium-sized compared to the grape varieties . The leaf surface ( blade ) is hardly blistered.

The grape variety ripens approx. 30 days after the Gutedel and thus belongs to the grape varieties of the middle third ripening period (see grape variety # classification according to the time of ripening ); it is therefore considered to ripen late.

Malvasía Rosada is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera subsp. Vinifera ). It has hermaphroditic flowers, which makes it self-fertilizing . When viticulture it is therefore possible to prevent the cultivation of male plants; because these do not provide any yield, which would represent an economic disadvantage.
