Mammillaria uncinata is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet uncinata means '(Latin uncinatus) hooked, hook-shaped'.
description
Mammillaria uncinata grows singly or occasionally sprouting. The flattened spherical to spherical, dark blue-green shoots are 6 to 10 centimeters high and 8 to 10 centimeters in diameter. The solid, pyramidal warts are angular at the base. They carry plenty of milky juice . The axillae are initially covered with wool, later bare. There is a pink-gray to dark purple-brown central spine . It has a dark tip and is up to 1 centimeter long. The 3 to 6 radial spines are, the uppermost are shorter and stronger, straight to slightly curved. They are pink to grayish white and 5 to 6 millimeters long.
The yellowish or white flowers have a reddish brown central stripe. They measure 1.5 to 2 inches in length and up to 1.5 inches in diameter. The club-shaped fruits are purple-red. They grow up to 1.8 inches long and contain brown seeds .
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Mammillaria uncinata is widespread in the Mexican states of Hidalgo , San Luis Potosí , Mexico , Morelos , Puebla , Oaxaca , Guerrero , Durango , Querétaro , Aguascalientes , Michoacán, and Jalisco .
It was first described in 1837 by Ludwig Georg Karl Pfeiffer . A synonym of Mammillaria uncinata Zucc. ex whistle. is Mammillaria depressa Scheidw. (1838).
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
