Maneb (abbreviation for manganese ethylene-1,2-bis-dithiocarbamate ) is a chemical compound from the group of dithiocarbamates , which as crop protection agents used in fungal diseases. It is a yellowish, slightly water-soluble powder. Maneb remains as a residue from the treatment of agricultural crops in fruits and vegetables.

use

Maneb is used as a pesticide for fungal diseases ( fungicide ). For example against late blight and brown rot ( Phytophthora ) and the dry spot disease ( Alternaria ) on potatoes and tomatoes, against downy mildew and rust fungi on ornamental plants and against blue mold ( Peronospora tabacina ) on tobacco. In 2007, between 100 and 250 t of maneb was used in Germany; in 2011 the amount used fell to 25–100 t.

Admission

Maneb is no longer approved or sold in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
