Manfred Konieczka

Manfred Konieczka (born May 26, 1941 ) is a German table tennis player who took part in the 1962 European Championship .

Career

Manfred Konieczka comes from Berlin. He is a defensive player and for many years used a wooden board stick with a pimple surface from the “Barna” brand. He began his table tennis career at VfV Neukölln and continued it in 1956 at Tennis Borussia Berlin . He achieved his first successes as a teenager in 1957 at the European Youth Championships, where he reached the final in a mixed with Brigitte Wolf. A year later he became German mixed champions with the same partner. In the 1960/61 season he came to the finals of the German team championship with Tennis Borussia and ended up in third place. In 1970 he moved to Hertha BSC and was involved in promotion to the 1st Bundesliga . In 1983 he returned to Tennis Borussia. In the early 1980s he rejoined Hertha BSC, rose with the team in 1985 and played a key role in staying in the 1st league in 1986. From 1986 he played again for Tennis Borussia in the 2nd Bundesliga.

In 1962 he was nominated for the individual competitions of the European Championship in West Berlin. Here he won the singles against Carlo Jaminet (Luxembourg) and then retired against the Yugoslav Edvard Vecko . The doubles with Wolfgang Lux advanced two rounds. After victories against Alberto Lo / Antonio Osorio (Portugal) and Carlo Jaminet / Valentin Langehegermann (Luxembourg) they lost against Edvard Vecko / Istvan Korpa from Yugoslavia. Even in mixed with Edith Steinke , he was eliminated in the third round: They prevailed against Charapoulos / Scrivanou (Greece) and Zeljko Hrbud / Cirila Pirc (Yugoslavia) and were then defeated by the Germans Wolf Berger / Marlies Berger .

In 1972 Manfred Konieczka was ranked 12th in the German ranking . From 1959 to 1987 he was seven times Berlin champion in singles, nine times in doubles and five times in mixed.

In addition to table tennis, Manfred Konieczka has also been active in tennis since 1972. With the Berlin club TC Frohnau he played in the Oberliga, the highest class in Berlin.

Private

Manfred Konieczka worked as a civil servant at the Federal Insurance Agency for Salaried Employees (BfA). His wife Gabi was one of the best players in Berlin, she belonged to the TTC Blau-Gold Berlin . They have a daughter together.
