Manfred Pieske (born August 2, 1937 in Bernau ) is a German cultural scientist , lecturer , writer , local researcher , publisher and journalist .

Life

Manfred Pieske is the son of the mechanical engineer Bruno Pieske and the farmer Frieda Lieske. Born in Bernau, Pieske was sent to his grandparents' farm in Karolina , Landkreis Netzekreis , Grenzmark Posen-West Prussia as a result of the Second World War . There Pieske started school together with Polish students.

While fleeing from the Red Army , the family first went to Dresden , then to Vogtland and later to Berlin . At the age of ten he developed the desire to become a writer.

In Berlin, Pieske completed an apprenticeship as a bookseller and worked in the renowned bookstores Das Gute Buch on Berlin's Alexanderplatz and in the Karl Marx bookstore on Berlin's Stalinallee .

In 1968 Pieske began studying cultural studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin , which he completed in 1973 with a diploma and the grade summa cum laude . He turned down an offer for a doctorate in connection with a university career. Pieske volunteered at the Berlin publishing house Volk und Welt .

From then on he worked in various fields of advertising and book sales before he made his debut as an author in 1975 at the Rostock Hinstorff Verlag with his short story "Luftschlösser". Then novels, artist stories, fairy tales were written. Some of Pieske's literary works achieved several editions in the GDR and some were filmed, such as his first novel Schnauzer by Maxim Dessau .

Since 1980, the Mitteldeutscher Verlag (mdv), based in Halle and Leipzig, worked as a lecturer in addition to his own writing. There he supervised authors such as Michael Franz , Peter Goslicki , Eckard Krumbholz , Karl Mundstock , Friedemann Schreiter , Peter Troche and young talents, in addition to his own writing, as a lecturer.

In the course of the fall of the Wall , Pieske lost his job at the mdv, but was immediately commissioned by Harenberg Verlag in Dortmund to write a 630-page Berlin guide in pocket format.

During this time, the city of Teltow approached Pieske with the request to take care of the municipal periodical Teltower Stadt-Blatt , which is bound to the official journal of the city of Teltow . Disagreements with the Teltower administration lead in 1993 to the fact that Pieske founded the Teltower Stadt-Blatt Verlag and managed the newspaper privately as a publisher and journalist. The independent and circulation-checked advertising paper RegionalRundschau , which Pieske launched in 1993 alongside the Teltower Stadt-Blatt , is now published in the southern outskirts of Berlin with a bi-weekly print run of 70,000.

Pieske headed the publishing house for seven years. In 1991 Pieske acquired the Stahnsdorfer Ortsanzeiger for the publishing house and in 2000 the Kleinmachnower Zeitung . Together with the Teltower Stadt-Blatt , all three organs were combined in the local report in November 2011 . In 2000 Pieske sold the publishing house to the entrepreneur Andreas Gröschl, but continued to write as a freelancer for the Teltower Stadtblatt .

Pieske lives in Stahnsdorf, is married to Brigitta Pieske and has two daughters.
