Manfred Rudersdorf
Manfred Rudersdorf (born February 7, 1952 in Ellar ) is a German historian focusing on the history of the early modern period . His areas of expertise include the history of the Reformation and confessionalization , the comparative territorial history of the Old Kingdom, and the history of universities and education.
Live and act
After attending school in Ellar and high school in Hadamar / Westerwald , Manfred Rudersdorf studied history , political science , sociology and education at the universities of Gießen and Tübingen . From 1980 to 1982 he was a research fellow at the Institute for European History in Mainz , Department of Universal History. The PhD in 1988 at the University of Tübingen on Landgraf Louis IV of Hesse-Marburg - country division and Lutheranism in Hesse from 1537 to 1604. Followed in 1993 at the University of Osnabrück , the Habilitation about Justus Moser and the world of the poor . From 1982 to 1987 he was a research assistant at the history department of the University of Tübingen at the chair of Volker Press , from 1988 to 1994 university assistant at the department of culture and geosciences at the University of Osnabrück at the chair of Anton Schindling . From 1994 to 1997 he was a university lecturer (C 2) at the University of Osnabrück. In 1997 he was appointed to a professorship for Early Modern History (C 4) at the History Department of the University of Leipzig . Since 2001 Manfred Rudersdorf has been a full member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences in Leipzig (philological-historical class), where he leads two long-term scientific projects on early modern cultural and intellectual history. In the successor to Günther Wartenberg , Rudersdorf was chairman of the Senate Commission for the publication of the five-volume complete edition of the history of the University of Leipzig 1409–2009 from 2007 to 2011 . From 2009 to 2015 he was a member of the DFG Graduate College on Religious Nonconformism and Cultural Dynamics at the University of Leipzig. From 2013 to 2018 he was dean of the Faculty of History, Art and Oriental Studies. In 2016 he was reappointed head of the Research Center for University History. From 2008 to 2020 he was chairman of the scientific advisory board of the Simon Dubnow Institute for Jewish History and Culture in Leipzig (since 2018 Leibniz Institute ). He has been a liaison lecturer at the German National Academic Foundation since 1998. Rudersdorf has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Leipzig Cultural Foundation since 2017 . In October 2018, he retired from the University of Leipzig. Manfred Rudersdorf lives and works in Leipzig.
