Manorama (Hindi actress)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Manorama (actually Erin Isaac Daniel ; born August 16, 1926 in Lahore , † February 15, 2008 in Mumbai ) was an Indian actress of Punjabi and Hindi films .

Life

The actress of Indo-Irish descent began her film career in the early 1940s with punjabi films by Roshan Lal and Roop Kishore Shorey . In Lahore at Dalsukh Pancholis film company Pancholi Art Pictures, she established herself in the 1940s as an actress in Panjabi and Hindi films and starred in films by Moti Gidwani and Ravindra Dave , among others . After the partition of India , she went to Bombay like the studio owner and the filmmakers who worked there. In Hindi films, she was known for both her comical and devious roles. Her most important films include Do Kaliyan (1968), Ek Phool Do Maali (1969) and Seeta Aur Geeta (1972). Her last film appearance was in Deepa Mehtas Water in 2005 after 13 years of abstinence from the screen. Manorama also worked for television. She died around the age of 80.

It is still unclear whether the actress "Manorama" in Bimal Roy's films Parineeta (1953) and Biraj Bahu (1954) is this actress or the Bengali actress Manorama .
