Manuel González García

Manuel González García (born February 25, 1877 in Seville , Spain , † January 4, 1940 in Madrid ) was a Spanish clergyman, bishop of Palencia and founder of the order. He is venerated as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Manuel González García received on 21 September 1901 by the Archbishop of Seville , Marcelo Spinola y Maestre , the sacrament of Holy Orders .

Pope Benedict XV appointed him on December 6, 1915 titular bishop of Olympus and auxiliary bishop in Málaga . He was ordained episcopal on January 16 of the following year by the Archbishop of Seville, Cardinal Enrique Almaraz y Santos . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Tui , Leopoldo Eijo y Garay , and the Prelate of Ciudad Real , Remigio Gandásegui y Gorrochátegui .

On April 22nd, 1920 he was appointed Bishop of Málaga . With the support of his sister Maria-Antonia, he founded the religious order of the Eucharistic Missionary Sisters of Nazareth ( Misioneras Eucarísticas de Nazaret ) on May 3, 1921 . Later he founded the men's community of Discípulos de San Juan and some other organizations dedicated to the veneration of Christ in the Eucharist . On August 5, 1935, Pope Pius XI appointed him . to the Bishop of Palencia .

Beatification and Canonization

In 1952, the beatification process was opened, which Pope John Paul II concluded with his beatification on April 29, 2001. In the process of canonization that followed, on March 3, 2016 , Pope Francis recognized a miracle attributed to his intercession. On June 20, 2016, the date was set for the canonization, which Pope Francis performed in Rome on October 16 of the same year.

His liturgical feast day is January 4th.
