Manuel Tames is a municipality in the southeast of Cuba and belongs to the province of Guantánamo . The administrative seat of the municipality is located in Jamaica, 10 km northeast of the provincial capital Guantánamo .

geography

The municipality Manuel Tames has a total area of ​​1051.55 km². It is in the heart of the Guantánamo Province. The municipality borders in the west on the provincial capital Guantánamo, in the north on the Municipio Yateras , in the east and south on San Antonio del Sur and in a short section in the southwest on Caimanera . In the municipality are among others the places Jamaica, Héctor Infante, Manuel Tames and Honduras.

history

The municipality was re-established in 1964. It owes its name to the guerrilla Manuel Simón Tames Guerra, who died fighting in the revolution under Fidel Castro in September 1958.

Manuel Tames is crossed by the well-developed and largest highway in Cuba, the Carretera Central , in the extreme south along the border with the Municipio Caimanera. It allows the community a good connection to the provincial capital Guantánamo and the city of Baracoa, which is interesting for individual travelers .
