Manuel Wieser (born January 1, 1990 in Hall in Tirol ) is an Austrian ski racer . He starts in all disciplines, belongs to the Patscherkofel ski club and has been a member of the A-team of the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) since 2012 .
biography
Manuel Wieser took part in the first children's races at the age of three. In order to devote himself intensively to ski racing, he attended the ski trade school in Stams after finishing secondary school in Hall in Tirol . As a student, he achieved numerous victories at regional events as well as some successes at national and international level. In 2003 and 2005 he was Austrian school master four times. In 2005 he won the gold medal in slalom and the bronze medal in giant slalom at the Trofeo Topolino in Pinzolo, Italy, as well as the silver medal in slalom at the Whistler Cup in Whistler-Blackcomb, Canada .
Wieser has been participating in FIS races since the 2005/2006 season , and since January 2008 also in European Cup races . At the Austrian youth championships in January 2009, he won the Super-G and the combined in his youth class II. Five weeks later, he took part in the 2009 Junior World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , where he was eliminated twice and only finished 13th in the downhill.
After Wieser had won a total of five FIS races in 2009 and was then promoted from the junior to the B-squad of the ÖSV, he achieved a top 10 result in the European Cup for the first time on January 14, 2010 as ninth downhill on Patscherkofel at home . At the Junior World Championships in 2010 , he finished fifth in the downhill and seventh in the Super-G and in the giant slalom three times in the top 10. On February 24, 2011, Wieser achieved third place in the super combination of Sarntal / Reinswald, the first podium in the European Cup. A few days later he made his first World Cup starts in Bansko, Bulgaria . So far, however, he has remained without World Cup points. In the 2011/2012 season , Wieser achieved another podium in the European Cup (second place in the Super Combined from Sarntal / Reinswald), and third in the Super Combined classification. In spring 2012 he was promoted to the A-team of the ÖSV.
