Marc Merson
Marc Merson , born as Marcus Henry Merson , (born September 9, 1931 in New York - † September 29, 2013 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American film producer , screenwriter and filmmaker . Merson has worked on such films as The Heart is a Lone Hunter and Doc Hollywood , and has been nominated for both Academy Awards and Emmy Awards.
biography
Merson graduated from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania . He later worked for several years as program director at CBS, where he also directed castings before founding Brownstone Productions in 1966. The pilot he produced in 1967 for a planned ABC sitcom called Dilby did not find a buyer. In the same year he was nominated for an Emmy for his work on the newly created anthology series ABC Stage 67 , the first episode of which was titled The Love Song of Barney Kempinski . He worked there for the first time with Alan Arkin . Also in 1967 produced Merson for NBC television movie Androcles and the Lion (Androcles and the Lion) on a play by George Bernard Shaw with songs by Richard Rodgers . Cooperation with Arkin sat 1968 in by Robert Ellis Miller after the novel by Carson McCullers resulting film The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter continued, played in the Arkin the deaf-mute John Singer, for which he received his second Oscar. Merson co-produced the film with Thomas C. Ryan. For the short film People Soup produced by him , which was directed by Alan Arkin and in which two of his sons appeared, Merson was rewarded with an Oscar nomination in 1970 . This was followed by further work for television.
In 1976 Merson then produced the autobiographical film Leadbelly , which documents the life of the folk singer Huddie William Ledbetter (better known as "Leadbelly"). Roger E. Mosley played the title role . In the years 1978/1979 Merson was involved in the CBS drama series Kaz & Co in the producer team. Ron Leibman played in it a car thief who becomes a criminal defense attorney. Further work for television followed.
Merson last drew attention to himself in 1991 as a producer with the comedy film Doc Hollywood with Michael J. Fox in the lead role. In the same year he was one of the organizers of the Eco Expo, the first national fair for environmental consumers and from 2009 chairman of the China Eco Expo. He produced two major environmental fairs in collaboration with the Chinese Ministry of Construction and an international environmental conference in collaboration with the city of Shenzhen .
Mersen, who was married with two daughters, died of heart failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles at the age of 82 .
