Marcel Gebers (born June 5, 1986 in Soltau ) is a former German soccer player who was active as a defender. He last played for SV Meppen , for which he continues to work after his career has ended.

Career

Gebers started playing football at TSV Neuenkirchen . In the C-youth he played for MTV Soltau , then moved to the B-youth of Eintracht Braunschweig and later to the A-Juniors of SC Langenhagen . From 2005 to 2008 he ran for TuS Heeslingen , with whom he was promoted to the then fourth-class league in 2007. In the 2007/08 season he played 31 games (two goals) in the Oberliga Nord .

For the 2008/09 season Gebers moved to VfB Lübeck in the regional league . In Lübeck he was a regular player for four years and played a total of 127 games in which he scored 18 goals. Best place was a third place in the 2010/11 season . In 2011, the national championship title was also won in the hall. Gebers and his team won the SHFV Cup in 2009, 2010 and 2012 , each of which meant qualification for the DFB Cup . In 2009 , VfB Lübeck defeated Bundesliga club 1. FSV Mainz 05 in the first round . Gebers was used both in this game and in the 1: 3 defeat after extra time against VfB Stuttgart in the second round. In 2010 another cup appearance against MSV Duisburg followed .

In the summer of 2012, Gebers moved to league competitor Holstein Kiel . The 2012/13 season started well for Gebers, he immediately became a regular player and scored three goals in his first seven appearances. Due to persistent problems with the right Achilles tendon , he underwent an operation in November 2012 and was subsequently out until May 2013. Shortly before the end of the season Gebers returned and helped his team secure the championship in the Regionalliga Nord in the last three games of the season. In the promotion round to the 3rd league , he was used in both games against Südwestmeister KSV Hessen Kassel and also scored the 2-1 goal in the second leg (first leg 2-0), which meant the Kielers were promoted to the 3rd league . On the 1st matchday of the 2013/14 season , Gebers made his professional debut in the 3rd division on July 20, 2013 in a 0-0 game against Hansa Rostock . On the 2nd matchday he scored his first goals in a professional league with two goals in the game against 1. FC Saarbrücken .

In the summer of 2015 Gebers switched to Kickers Offenbach . For the 2016/17 season he joined the third division promoted FSV Zwickau , in the 2016/17 winter break with SV Meppen in the Regionalliga Nord. With SV Meppen he was champion at the end of the season. In the promotion round to the 3rd league , in which Gebers was used in both games against SV Waldhof Mannheim , the SVM successfully prevailed.

On May 12, 2018, the defender played his last game for Meppen and subsequently suffered hip and knee injuries that ultimately forced him to retire from his playing career in December 2019.

Private

Shortly before the final exams, Gebers broke off his training as an administrative clerk in favor of his football career.

Half a year after the end of his playing career, Lower Saxony returned to SV Meppen. Here, as part of a retraining course, he was given the opportunity to complete a commercial apprenticeship in the office.
