March of Dimes and Richard B. Johnston, Jr., MD Prize in Developmental Biology
The March of Dimes Prize in Developmental Biology ( "March-of-Dimes Prize for Developmental Biology ", since 2017 March of Dimes and Richard B. Johnston, Jr., MD Prize in Developmental Biology in memory of Richard B. Johnston , former Medical Director of March of Dimes ) is a science award given by the US charity March of Dimes . The annually awarded prize is endowed with 150,000 US dollars (as of 2019). The prize winners will also receive a silver medal based on a dime coin with the likeness of Franklin D. Roosevelt , the founder of the March of Dimes .
The award is given to scientists whose work has made significant advances in understanding the development of congenital malformations . Six of the 38 award winners later also received a Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (as of early 2020).
