Marcos Silva

Marcos Silva (born September 8, 1954 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian fusion musician ( keyboards , synthesizers , arrangement , composition ) and music producer who belongs to the jazz scene on the American west coast.

Live and act

Between 1968 and 1971, Silva received music training (especially piano and classical guitar) at the Museu da Imagem e do Som . He has been a professional musician since 1973. He worked with Leny Andrade , Emilio Santiago, Marcio Montarroyos, Jon Lucien and Claudio Roditi from an early age . From 1982 onwards he worked for two decades for the band of Flora Purim and Airto Moreira , The Fourth World , as musical director, with whom he toured worldwide; He was also the arranger and conductor of Airtos Missa Espiritual (1983) in place of Gil Evans . He has directed his own group Intersection , with which he has released two albums, since 1984. He has also worked with Toninho Horta , Paquito D'Rivera (1984–1986), Ricardo Silveira, Dori Caymmi , Nana Caymmi , Danilo Caymmi, Edu Lobo and Joyce Moreno . In 1988 he arranged for Dizzy Gillespie . In 2001 he was invited as a guest musician by Ivan Lins to his album Jobiniando .

His compositions and arrangements were recorded by Bud Shank , Herbie Mann , Toninho Horta, Romero Lubambo , the New York Trio da Paz as well as by Flora Purim and Airto Moreira. His arrangement of Milton Nascimentos Esquinas for Flora Purim was nominated for a 1986 Grammy . As a producer, he was in charge of Viva Brasils Messages and Sandy Cresman's Homenagem Brasileira .

Silva is also active as a music teacher; since 1997 he teaches at the jazz school in Berkeley .
