Marek Kamiński

Marek Kamiński (born March 24, 1964 in Gdansk ) is a Polish polar explorer , author, photographer and entrepreneur. He was one of the first people to reach both Poles in one year without external support: on May 23, 1995, he and Wojciech Moskal reached the North Pole and on December 27, 1995, the South Pole single-handedly.

Life

Kamiński grew up in Połczyn-Zdrój (Pomerania). In 1982 he finished the Wladyslaw Broniewski High School in Koszalin and then studied philosophy and physics at the University of Warsaw . Kamiński is the founder and co-owner of "Invena SA" and founder of the "Marek Kaminski Foundation". He speaks 8 languages: English, German, Norwegian, Russian, French, Spanish, Italian and Japanese. He lives in Sopot with his wife and two children .

  • 1995: "From Pole to Pole" - From the island "Ward Hunt" together with Wojciech Moskal (770 kilometers in 72 days) he reached the North Pole
  • 1995: "A Pole with the Poles" - solo expedition to the South Pole from Berkner Island (1,400 kilometers in 53 days)
  • 1996/1997: "Solo TransAntarctica" - attempted solo crossing from Antarctica (1,450 kilometers)

Marek Kaminski Foundation

The Marek Kaminski Foundation was established in 1996. It promotes educational programs such as fundraising for prostheses for the needy. Its statutory goals also include supporting exploration of the polar regions, promoting polar studies and ecology, and supporting young participants in expeditions.

The foundation principles are:

  • "Let us help sick children and make their dreams come true". The capital raised was used to buy drip catchers for children and to modernize the hospital in Gdansk (1995)
  • "Solo TransAntarctica", the organization of a polar expedition, which was part of an international educational program (1996/97)
  • Organization of a trip to Antarctica at Christmas for two orphans from the Elk and Ostrowka. The trip was first prize in a bankruptcy related to the South Pole Region. (1996/97)
  • Organization of an expedition to Mount Vinson, the highest mountain in Antarctica (1997/98)
  • Organization of a competition for the children testing knowledge of Australia while crossing the Gibson Desert. Financing the first prize - a trip to Sydney (1999)
  • "Together to Poland", organization of expeditions by Marek Kaminski and disabled adolescent Jasiek Mela to both Poles (2004)
  • “Give others a shans”, fundraising, for the prostheses for the handicapped during the first expedition. The total collected - 733,227 zlotys - was spent on purchasing prostheses for 65 disabled people (2004)
  • "School near Poland", organization of an educational campaign (2004)
  • World Day of the Sick Child - the general campaign, 10,000 books "Lulie's Great Journey" were distributed to all the children who were in the hospital (February 2005)
  • Help for Pakistan fundraising for the victims of the earthquake in Pakistan (November 2005)
