Marek Pravda
Marek Prawda (born October 1, 1956 in Kielce ) is a Polish diplomat and has headed the Representation of the European Commission in Warsaw since April 1, 2016 .
Life
In 1975 Marek Prawda began studying economics at the University of Leipzig . From 1979 to 1990 he conducted research at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. In 1980 he joined Solidarność . In 1984 he received his doctorate in sociology. Prawda stayed at the University of Hamburg from 1987 to 1989 for study purposes . After working at the Institute for Political Studies at the Academy of Sciences in Warsaw from 1990 to 1992, he was appointed 1st Embassy Secretary of the Polish Embassy in Germany in 1992 . He stayed at the embassy until 1998, when he became Deputy Director of the Department for Western Europe in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland. A year later he became director of the department. In 2001 he became head of the ministerial office in the same ministry for a short time. In the same year he was appointed ambassador of Poland to Sweden . He stayed that way until 2005, when he returned to the position of Director of the Ministerial Office. From 2006 to 2012 Marek Prawda was the ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Germany . Since September 2012 he has been the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the European Union. With effect from the end of February 2016, he was dismissed prematurely; his regular term of office would not have expired until autumn 2016. Shortly after he was dismissed as Poland's representative to the EU, EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker appointed him representative of the EU Commission in Poland.
Marek Prawda wrote for the magazine “Borussia” , which appears in Olsztyn , which aims to discover and preserve the joint German-Polish cultural heritage.
He was a member of the international award committee of the Adalbert Foundation .
Honors
In 2012 Prawda received the Great Federal Cross of Merit and the Order of Merit of the State of Brandenburg . At the 25th Annual Meeting of the German-Polish Society, Prawda was awarded the DIALOG Prize in 2016 in Gdansk . Gesine Schwan gave the laudatory speech .
