Margarethenberg is a district of the municipality of Burgkirchen an der Alz and a church village in the Upper Bavarian district of Altötting .

location

On a riverside mountain of the Alz , about five kilometers southwest of Burgkirchen, with the houses of Margarethenberg in the west, the parish church of Maria Himmelfahrt and St. Margaretha is visible from afar. The village of Hirten is located north of the Margarethenberg on the banks of the Alz .

history

Excavations have shown that the striking mountain has been inhabited since the Stone Age. The name Margarethenberg has been used alongside the previous name Windberg since the beginning of the 12th century . The place received through the veneration of St. Margaretha his name. In 1202 the church was incorporated into the Raitenhaslach monastery .

In place of a previous building, a Gothic three-aisled hall church , equally divided inside, was consecrated on June 16, 1406 with rows of pillars parallel to both sides of the central nave. In 1621 a brotherhood to the hll that still exists today 14 helpers founded.

The richly articulated tower received its final shape in 1759 when a new dome was added. The interior was made Baroque between 1752 and 1760, among other things by removing the central pillars. The high altar dates back to 1625. The high altar sheet and the ceiling frescoes on the vault were created by Johann Baptist Zimmermann .

The Vicariate Margarethenberg was after the lifting of Raitenhaslach 1812 Branch of Halsenbach , 1866 Expositur and 1912 parish . In 1959 the patronage of the church of St. Margaretha was changed to Maria Himmelfahrt.

Margarethenberg received a school in 1793.
