Margit Hellwig-Bötte

Margit Hellwig-Bötte (born July 11, 1958 in Kassel ) is a German diplomat . Since July 2016 she has been working as Consul General in Bangalore , India .

Life

After graduating from high school , she studied history , philosophy and Romance studies and passed the first state examination in 1984 . After a diploma in European administrative science at the College of Europe in Bruges in 1985, she passed her second state examination in 1987.

career

In 1988 she joined the diplomatic service and, after completing her attaché training in 1990, was initially a consultant in the Department for Universities and Science (Department 604) of the Federal Foreign Office and then from December 1991 to December 1993 permanent representative of the Ambassador in Guinea . After her return, she worked as a consultant in the Parliament and Cabinet Division (Division 011) of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, before she was Deputy Head of the Press Division at the Embassy in the United Kingdom between May 1997 and January 1999 . After that she worked as a coordinator to June 2006 foreign policy of the parliamentary group of the SPD in the German Bundestag worked and dealt with a special focus issues of transatlantic relations, European security policy and Africa . In June 2006, she became Head of Division for Pan-European Political Structures (Division 203) at the Federal Foreign Office and was therefore particularly responsible for politics in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

From August 2009 to September 2013 Margit Hellwig-Bötte was in place of Walter Johannes Lindner Ambassador to Kenya and also for the Seychelles and Somalia accredited . In October 2013 she was supposed to take over the post of ambassador to Tanzania, but her accreditation was denied by the government. Hellwig-Bötte then worked for almost a year as a visiting scholar at the Science and Politics Foundation and in July 2014 became Head of Division in the United Nations Department at the Foreign Office. In March 2015 she became head of the UN Personnel Policy Unit in the Dept. for International Order, United Nations and Arms Control. Since July 2016 she has been working as Consul General in Bangalore .
