The Roman Catholic Curate Church of the Birth of Mary in Windheim , a district of Münnerstadt in the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen, is one of the architectural monuments in Münnerstadt and is registered in the Bavarian list of monuments under the number D-6-72-135-239 .

history

The first time in 1243 as "winds" mentioned and in 882 by Bishop Arn of Würzburg , founded village Windheim was from 1300 to 1809 held by the German masters of Münnerstadt. Today's church was built between 1820 and 1843. With its generous dimensions, it is one of three classical church buildings in the diocese of Würzburg.

The local chaplaincy ( curate ) Windheim in the dean's office in Münnerstadt, which was independent from 1885 to 1968, is now part of the Bad Bocklet curate in the dean's office in Bad Kissingen .

Renovations took place in 1937, 1957 (exterior), 1978/79 and most recently in 1997/1999. Pastor Anton Uhl as well as church caretaker and holder of the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon Gregor Beck are explicitly mentioned as initiators of the preservation and care of the church complex from 1971 to 2000 .

Since 2002 the church has been one of the stations on the Franconian Marienweg .

Pilgrimage

The Marian pilgrimage probably goes back to a wayside shrine with today's miraculous image , in the place of which a chapel, completed in 1654, was built. This year with a coat of arms is visible in the cross vault . The pilgrimage was introduced by the Augustinian order, which is still represented in Münnerstadt today . Traditional feast days were the birth of Mary (September 8th), the feast of the seven sorrows of Mary and the Friday before Palm Sunday .

After the secularization of the Teutonic Order in 1809, the pilgrimage declined, but has recently experienced a regional renaissance. The church was included as one of 50 stations in the "Franconian Marienweg" .

Furnishing

The high altar picture from 1820 shows Christ on the cross, the two side altars show the Visitation and Annunciation, two pictures that once belonged to the Rococo furnishings of the Marienkapelle in Würzburg .

Numerous statues, a Way of the Cross and a pulpit (1825), partly of unknown origin, as well as two confessionals from 1786 adorn the church interior.

The miraculous image “Our Lady of Windheim” dates from the period from 1300 to 1350. It shows the enthroned Madonna with the baby Jesus. In her hand she holds a scepter , at her feet the moon, a crown with twelve stars on her head. After theft and retrieval in 1975, the statue can now be seen in a shrine on the right side altar.

organ

Schlimbach organ
Gaming table

The first organ from 1778 was replaced in 1902/03 by an instrument with mechanical action by Martin (Josef) Schlimbach at a price of 3900 marks . Today it is one of the 32 memorial organs in the Bad Kissingen district. In 1991 a revision and renovation took place, in which high-quality metal pipes were installed again. The original tin pipes were melted down for war purposes in 1917 and replaced by inferior zinc pipes.

  • Playing aids: Forte, Tutti (with footrests)

particularities

  • The register Mixtur III 2 23 was obviously incorrectly labeled with Mixtur III 2 13 by the builders !
  • The pedal system for the winch is fully functional. With three to four scooping steps, the tutti can be played for about 30 seconds!

Bells

In 1998 the church received two new bronze bells in addition to the existing Marien bell: the Trinity bell and the Anna bell. The notes are d '- f sharp' - a '.
