Windheim is a district of Münnerstadt in the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen , Bavaria .
Geographical location
Windheim is located west of Münnerstadt on the Quästenberg above the valley of the Franconian Saale .
The place is connected to the south with the KG 20 to Bad Bocklet and Burghausen . The towns of Roth an der Saale (district of Bad Bocklet) and Reichenbach can be reached northeast . The Franconian Marienweg leads through Windheim .
history
The village was first mentioned in 1243 when Count Hermann von Henneberg pledged goods to the Würzburg prince-bishop. The place name refers to Slavic immigrants, i.e. a settlement in the 9th century.
In the Church of the Birth of Mary, newly built around 1820, there is a miraculous image of the seated Madonna and Child. The picture dates from around 1340. Later the Madonna picture was the destination of numerous pilgrimages .
On January 1, 1972, Windheim was incorporated into Münnerstadt.
